Stay In The Word
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock (Luke 6:47-48).
Adear minister of the Gospel once asked me, “How come some ministers serve God for so many years and then somehow end badly? How can we get to finish gloriously and not fail?” My response was to refer him to the words of Jesus in our theme scripture. If we pay attention to His Word, we’ll always win. He told us to hear and live by His Word.
Preaching the Word and living the Word are two different things. Just because you’re preaching it doesn’t mean it’s working in your life; you must live the Word. The Word of God is the answer to every question and the solution to every problem. That’s why we share and teach the Word, to help God’s people understand the Word and live the Word.
The Apostle Paul was very successful as a minister of the Gospel. At the end, he declared, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith...” (2 Timothy 4:7). He proved and lived the Word for himself. In Acts 20:32, he acknowledged and reiterated the efficacy of God’s Word, in his parting remarks to the brethren in the church at Ephesus. It’s about staying in the Word.
