(God’s Voice And The Scriptures Are One)
TO THE BIBLE: John 10:27-28 CEV
“My sheep know my voice, and I know them. They follow me, and I give them eternal life, so that they will never be lost. No one can snatch them out of my hand.”
Emma always had a strong desire to know her heavenly Father more; she loved praying to Him and even wanted to hear His voice audibly.
“What does His voice sound like?” she often wondered in prayer, “Do I have to wait as Jesus did at River Jordan? I’m eager to know.”
Perhaps like Emma, you’re wondering how to recognise God’s voice. I have good news for you: You don’t have to wait for a thunderous sound from the sky to know what His Spirit has to say to you.
Many Christians today ask: “How will I know when the Holy Spirit is talking to me?” Well, the first and most important thing is to receive the Holy Spirit into your heart. When this happens, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within and mingle with your spirit. The Bible says, “...the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17 AMPC), thus you become one with Him. Soon, you’ll hear His voice talking to you from your spirit. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit...”; so you’ll have the witness in your spirit that He’s the one talking to you (Romans 8:16). He’ll teach you how to know and recognise His voice, so first you receive Him. He knows the best way to get your attention and talk to you when He needs to.
Another important thing to do in knowing the voice of the Spirit is to learn the Word of God, for His voice bears witness with the Word. He never says anything outside the Word. Whatever He tells you is always in sync with the written Word, and consistent with God’s will for your life (John 16:13). If you’re acquainted with the Word, you’ll know whenever the Holy Spirit talks to you, for He always bears witness with the Word, and the Word will always bear witness with Him.
Romans 8:14; Isaiah 30:21; Deuteronomy 4:36
Dear Father, thank you for sending your Spirit to live within me. I pay attention to Him today and always as He speaks to me from your Word, and counsels me from within and I yield to Him more and more, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
