(Don’t Be Perturbed By False Accusations)
TO THE BIBLE: Matthew 5:11-12
“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Someone once asked me a question, wanting to know what to do when certain people, who, in their bid for fame, rise up maliciously to tarnish the reputation of others. Well, if someone decides to manipulate or exaggerate facts about your integrity, all in a bid to defame or malign your person, you don’t have to be perturbed, especially since you’re a child of God. The Bible lets us know that such things are not new.
Those who instigate personal attacks on others for self-aggrandisement do so to their own disadvantage. The Bible says, “The truthful lip shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment” (Proverbs 12:19). Thus, you need not worry if people lie against you, for such lies cannot sustain themselves: “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment” (Proverbs 12:19). When lies are told about you, they’ll only be there for a short while, and won’t stand the test of time. If you’re patient enough, the truth will be revealed and you’ll be vindicated.
When false accusations are targeted at you, what you do in such situations is to act on God’s Word. Do what Jesus said in Matthew 5:44. Don’t respond in bitterness or anger to your detractors; respond in love. That’s what the Master did, and that’s what you have to do also. Remember, no weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment shall be shown to be in the wrong. This peace, righteousness, security, and triumph over opposition is your heritage as a child of God (Isaiah 54:17).
Psalms 27:2; Romans 12:18-21
Dear Father, I thank you for encouraging, fortifying and strengthening me with your Word today. I refuse to worry, when hurtful comments are made about me, for I am fully aware that no weapon fashioned against me shall prosper. I’ve triumphed over every opposition, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
